B&K Universal is a company that supplies laboratory animals and other services. It is based at Grimston, East Riding of Yorkshire, England which is situated approximately 16 miles north east from Hull city centre. The company also has a rabbit farm in Spain.
It was formerly known as Bantin & Kingman. The firm offers beagles and rodents to labs.
It has been targeted by animal rights activists. There are regular demonstrations outside their premises, targeting of important suppliers and there has also been illegal direct action against the company.
In January 2000, the Animal Liberation Front firebombed trucks at a US franchise of B&K (No longer connected to B&K - t/a Animal Technologies Inc) in Fremont, California. [1]
In April 2006 Northern Animal Rights Network (NARN) began focusing its attention on B&K Universal with the aim of closing them down. In the first week, three companies ceased trading with the breeders and the campaign continues to fight for the closure of B&K.
