The British Society of Gastroenterology is a British professional organisation of gastroenterologists, although it also has surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, scientists, nurses, dietitians, and others amongst its members. It was founded in 1937. It is a registered charity.
The society publishes the medical journal Gut, as well as clinical practice guidelines and various other documents relevant to the field of gastroenterology. Moreover, the society holds an annual meeting at which original research in gastroenterology and hepatology may be presented.
Current president is Professor M.J.G. Farthing (BSG Council 2007-2008).
