Strangury is a urological condition in which there is painful urination.

Typically, it is described as a 'wrenching' sensation at the end of urination. Strangury may sometimes be associated with the passage of only a few drops of urine. The pain is attributed to irritation of urothelium(epithelium lining the urinary tract) and subsequent spasm of muscles. It is seen in numerous urological conditions including the following;

  1. Urinary calculus (stone)
  2. Bladder inflammation (cystitis)
  3. Bladder cancer
